HOW DO DATA-ONLY PLANS WORK?
amaysim data-only plans are great value and free from lock-in contracts. They also come with unlimited data banking, so you can save any data you don’t use for a rainy day.
What features are included with a data-only plan?
Our data-only plans come with data allowances of 7GB, 50GB or 90GB, as well as:
- eSIM ready – our data-only plans support eSIM for compatible devices
- Unlimited data banking – unlike other telcos, we don’t cap the amount of data you can store in your data bank.
- 5G data speeds (if you’re using a 5G compatible device in an area with 5G network coverage).
All our data-only plans last for 28 days and are set to automatically renew by default. And they’re powered by the Optus Mobile Network, which covers 98.5% of the Aussie population. If you’re in an area that doesn’t support Optus 5G coverage or your device is not 5G compatible, you’ll simply drop down the quickest available signal, which will most likely be 4G.
How to purchase a data-only plan
The easiest way to join amaysim with a data-only plan is to order your amaysim SIM card online. There is no fee for this, and your SIM card will be shipped to you free of charge, so all you’ll have to pay for is your chosen data-only plan upfront.
If you can’t wait for an amaysim to be sent out to you, you also have the option of purchasing one in-store from a range of retailers, including Coles, Woolworths, Australia Post, 7-Eleven and many more. Once you’ve purchased your SIM card, simply head over the activation page, enter your SIM number and select your chosen data-only plan to begin the signup process.
How data banking works
Otherwise known as ‘data rollover’, data banking saves all your unused data from your previous renewal period, ready for you to use whenever you run low on data.
For example, if your plan gives you 30GB of data each period, and you only use 10GB, when you next renew, the unused 20GB will automatically be saved in your data bank for later use.
We don’t cap your data banking, meaning there is no limit to the amount of data that can be stored in your data bank. So, you’ll always have that little bit extra to keep swiping, scrolling or streaming!
You’ll start using your banked data automatically whenever your existing allowance runs out
If you use up all the data allocated in your current plan before its renewal date, you’ll begin using any data stored in your data bank to keep you online until you next renew.
You don’t need to do anything to start using your banked data.
You can check your data bank balance at any time
Just login to the amaysim app or My amaysim to see how much you have stored in your data bank.
Note: Unfortunately, it isn’t possible for you to transfer the data you have stored in your data bank over to a new amaysim plan.
What happens if your data runs out
We’ll send you data usage alerts via email and text when you’ve used up 50%, 80% and 100% of your combined data allowance. However, messages can be delayed by 48 hours, so we recommend checking your balance on the amaysim app.
If you’ve run out of your included data and don’t have any extra stored in your data bank, we’ll pause your data access and wait for your next steps. If you want to stay online, you can choose to add a data top-up via My amaysim or on the amaysim app. Data top-ups are charged at $10 for every 1GB.
Alternatively, you could also choose to renew your current plan early, to restart your data allowance from scratch.
How to renew or recharge your data-only plan
amaysim data-only plans automatically renew by default, however, this can be switched off at any time.
You also can renew your plan at any point if you’re running low on data or have run out altogether. This will automatically restart your data allowance afresh. The most hassle-free way to do this is via a linked payment method on your account.
Note: If your plan has expired, you’ll be switched to AS YOU GO until you re-add your former plan.
Changing or cancelling your plan
You can change your plan at any time, free of charge. It’s important to us that you’re on the amaysim plan that’s perfect for you, so feel free to switch whenever you like. You can also cancel your plan at any time and won’t be charged for this either.
