amaysim NBN Buying Guide: How to Pick the Right Plan for Your Home
What to know about bringing your own modem
amaysim doesn't supply or sell modems, so you'll need to bring your own. If you're already on the NBN with another provider and your modem isn't locked to them, you can typically use the same modem with amaysim.
For most customers, switching is straightforward. There’s a brief outage which is usually around 15-30 minutes on connection day while the service activates, and then it works automatically. For some modems, you may need to update a few settings, but our support team can usually help with this.
See how it works to check your modem compatibility.
If you do need to buy one, you get to choose exactly the hardware that suits your setup (rather than accepting whatever a provider decides to bundle).
For connection types: most standard NBN-compatible modems will work across all technology types, but it's worth checking before buying.
For NBN 500 and above, a Wi-Fi 6 router (also called 802.11ax) is worth considering; older hardware may not be able to deliver the full speeds those tiers offer to your devices.
We recommend using a modem no older than five years. If yours is older than that and you're experiencing connection issues, that's a reasonable first thing to check before assuming it's a plan or network problem.
The bundle discount – not just an intro offer
Like many NBN providers, amaysim offers a standard introductory discount on plan fees for the first six months. After that, the price reverts to the standard or bundle rate.
After the first six months, if you have an active amaysim SIM plan, you’ll receive an ongoing $10/month discount on NBN plan fees. You’ll keep your bundle discount for as long as you have an active NBN plan and mobile service with amaysim.
For full current pricing, the NBN plans page has the bundle and standard rates for each tier.
Not sure? You’ll get a 30-day satisfaction guarantee
If you’re a new customer connecting to amaysim NBN for the first time and the service doesn't meet your expectations, you have 30 days to cancel and receive a refund of your first month's plan fees.
The refund covers plan fees only; any promotional credits or offers on your account aren't included.
To invoke the guarantee, you need to contact amaysim before disconnecting or transferring your service – by phone, through the My amaysim app, or via live chat. The guarantee is available once per customer per residential address.
Pair that with the month-to-month structure – no lock-in contract, no exit fee after your first 30 days. If it works, you stay. If it doesn't, you're not stuck.
Getting help when you need it
amaysim has a dedicated NBN support phone line for technical troubleshooting that’s open 8am-8pm everyday, with reduced hours on public holidays (10am-6pm).
That's alongside live chat and email. You can also use the My amaysim app for 24/7 self-service, where you can manage your plan, check your service status, update your payment details, and download invoices without needing to contact anyone.
Is amaysim NBN right for your household?
The honest answer depends on your situation.
If a bundled landline or included modem is a priority
amaysim may not be the right fit. There’s no landline service included with any amaysim NBN plan, and we don’t supply modems, you need to bring your own. If you can’t work around either of those, consider a provider whose models includes them.
If you're already an amaysim mobile customer
The bundle discount you receive after the first six months means amaysim NBN is the obvious next step if you're already on amaysim mobile. Your bundle price is ongoing once your intro pricing ends, and you're managing one provider.
If you're switching NBN providers and want great value
amaysim's month-to-month structure and 30-day guarantee make the move easier. There are no contracts to exit, no modems to return, and no lock-in periods to wait out.
amaysim has been recognised by Finder in their 2026 Finder Customer Satisfaction Awards as a Loved Brand, a Trusted Brand, and was recognised for Value, Reliability and Quality Service. We were named a Recommended Brand.
So, if you’ve been burned by a provider before and want to try without commitment, you’ve come to the right place.
