How to Transfer an eSIM to a New Phone
Maintain your existing phone number and get set up fast with this guide on how to transfer an eSIM to your new eSIM compatible phone.
This can be achieved by connecting to amaysim’s app, a QR code, or an activation code provided by amaysim upon purchase of an eSIM.
Important Information Before You Start
It’s important to be aware of these key points before getting started:
- Ensure that both your old and new devices support eSIM technology. Did you know we have an eSIM compatibility tool? Check it out here.
- Ensure you have a stable WiFi connection ready to use
- Your new device may need the latest software update to successfully transfer an eSIM
- Your eSIM will stop working on the old device once the transfer is complete
Bear in mind that eSIM QR codes provided by amaysim are usually single-use, so you may need a new one from amaysim for a new device. You should always back up the data on your old device before starting the process to transfer eSIMs.

Option 1: Transfer an eSIM in amaysim’s app
If you didn’t transfer your service during setup, you can still transfer your eSIM by following the steps below:
- Ensure your new phone is on a WiFi network
- Download amaysim’s app on the phone to transfer the eSIM
- Go to the eSIM, settings or account management section to find the option to set up or transfer your eSIM
- Follow the instructions to complete activation on the app to transfer the eSIM
Option 2: eSIM Transfer using a QR code
amaysim may require you to use a QR code for an eSIM transfer to a new phone.
To transfer your eSIM by this method:
- Open Settings on your new phone and locate Network, Connections, or SIMs
- Select the option to Add eSIM or Download eSIM
- Scan the QR code provided by your amaysim and follow the prompts
Option 3: How to Transfer an eSIM during New Phone Setup
Note: amaysim does not currently support this feature, for any device (iOS or Android)
This transfer option is a simple process to complete an eSIM transfer to your new phone and works on most modern Android phones and iPhones. During setup, your new phone will guide you through transferring an eSIM to a new phone through selecting the eSIM from your old phone and confirming the transfer on both mobile devices.
- Ensure that both your old and new phones have a WiFi connection
- Start the new phone setup process on your new device
- When you reach the step to Transfer Phone Number or Set Up Mobile, choose the option to transfer from a nearby phone
- Select your eSIM that you wish to use from your old device and confirm the transfer on both phones
- Wait for your eSIM to activate on the new phone
Once the eSIM transfer is complete, the eSIM will automatically deactivate on your old device.
What if I have a physical SIM?
Should your old phone have a physical SIM, it may still be possible to transfer the service to a new device by converting it to an eSIM.
During the initial phone setup, look for an option to convert or transfer a physical SIM, or alternatively go to Settings on the older device and check for Convert Physical SIM to eSIM and follow the prompts.
