Get ready to neglect your social life and responsibilities as we take you through some of the most addictive TV classics to binge watch.
Pride and Prejudice
You don’t have to be a diehard Jane Austen fan to get obsessed with this series (for the record, we’re referring to the BBC version released in 1995). While it’s easy to dismiss Pride & Prejudice as that outdated and low-budget show your mum probably had on VHS, it’s actually a made-for-TV masterpiece.
Seriously, it’s no coincidence Pride & Prejudice is still talked about more than 20 years after it first aired. Set in 18th century England, the plot revolves around Elizabeth Bennet, one of the most beloved heroines in literature history (if you don’t like her, we can’t be friends). As Elizabeth tries to navigate what passed for a dating scene in the late 1700s, plenty of old-timey drama and petty backstabbing ensues.

Ready for a change of pace? If romances aren’t really your thing, you might prefer Fargo. Now in its third season, Fargo is the dark comedy show. It follows an anthology format, meaning each season takes place in a different time period and features a new set of characters, although the setting is always the same.
Trying to explain Fargo’s rather intricate storyline would take all day, but believe us – if you’ve got a strong stomach for cinematic violence and can handle the dark humour, this show should be at the top of your must-watch list.
Fargo is available on Netflix
Louis Theroux documentaries
From UFOs to plastic surgery, Louis Theroux has made a documentary about almost every topic you can think of. Armed with nothing but a camera and insightful questions, this mild-mannered English filmmaker captures some of the most fascinating social movements from around the world. If you’ve ever wondered what motivates a survivalist, or why someone would want to keep over 100 tigers in their backyard, then Louis Theroux docos are where it's at.
With formats including mini TV series to feature-length films, he’s made over 30 documentaries so far. Even if you’re not usually a fan of non-fiction TV, Louis Theroux’s work has an addictive quality that’s ideal for binge watching.
Louis Theroux documentaries are currently streaming on SBS On Demand and Stan
It might not be the most critically acclaimed show on TV, but Gilmore Girls can help you switch your brain off and escape reality. Set in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, this hugely popular comedy-drama ran from 2000 to 2007 (it was also briefly revived for a 4-episode mini-series in 2016). It follows the lives and romantic escapades of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, a mother-daughter duo who made single parenting in small American town look like a charming existence we should all aspire to.
Gilmore Girls is whimsical, romantic, funny and at times kind of corny, but it’s the perfect rainy day pick-me-up.
All 8 seasons of Gilmore Girls (including the revival) are available on Netflix
manufactured romance, tons of partly scripted drama, huge egos and fame-hungry cast members, the Bachelor/Bachelorette has everything you could ever want in a dating show. Contestants compete against each other in an effort to win the love of their life (and often a career as a B-list media personality).
This show is pure trash, but it’s more watchable than most people are willing to admit. As long as you don’t take it too seriously, watching The Bachelor/Bachelorette is one of the best ways to keep yourself entertained on a quiet weekend.
You can catch up on The Bachelor or Bachelorette by streaming it on tenplay
