An eSIM is a digital SIM you can download onto a compatible phone, tablet or watch.

Unlike a traditional plastic SIM that you physically insert into the SIM card slot on your device, an eSIM lets you quickly download, activate and connect your mobile phone number to a cellular network.

When signing up a new phone number with amaysim, you'll be asked whether you'd prefer an eSIM or a physical SIM. As long as you have a compatible device, go ahead and order an eSIM, and then we'll provide you with instructions on how to download it as soon as you complete your order.

You can also purchase an amaysim eSIM pack in-person from over 1,100 Woolworths supermarkets and over 150 Big W stores across Australia.

For a seamless eSIM experience, it's best that you have a compatible phone before purchasing an eSIM pack. You can check this list for device compatibility.

If you've already completed your purchase and don't have an eSIM compatible device, you can easily order a physical SIM replacement via both our website and app.

amaysim eSIM packs are just like regular SIM packs, only they're printed with an activation code and download instructions instead of containing a traditional plastic SIM card.

Before buying an eSIM pack, it's important to check your device compatibility by scanning the QR code to see if your make and model is on our list. eSIM will not work on unsupported devices.

Once purchased, simply scan the QR code inside which will take you to our website and your pre-filled eSIM number. amaysim app users will be redirected to the app.

To complete your onboarding just enter the 4-digit activation code, select an eSIM plan, then log into My amaysim or the amaysim app.

If you're on a desktop using My amaysim you now just scan the QR code to successfully download eSIM on your device.

If you're on your phone using the amaysim app simply tap the 'Download eSIM' button to complete the process.

There is no extra cost for using an eSIM and it behaves exactly like a physical SIM.

Getting an eSIM number from amaysim is free of charge but you do have to choose, and pay for, a mobile phone plan to be able to connect it to our network.

As long as your phone supports DSDS (dual SIM, dual standby). Most phones do, but it's best to check with the manufacturer. You can have one physical SIM and one eSIM 'active' at a time. Each device will be different, but it will usually prompt you to choose which SIM you want to use for data, and what should happen with incoming/outgoing calls and messages to each SIM.

You can store more than one eSIM on your device but you can use only one number at a time. If you have multiple eSIMs downloaded, you can toggle between them in your device settings. Some devices may support multiple eSIMs being active, so please check with your manufacturer.

Some mobile devices use a feature called Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS). They allow both a physical SIM and one or more eSIMs to be installed on the same device. The limitation is only one SIM can be in use at a time, which means when you add a second SIM, you need to choose which SIM to use for data services. However, it is smart enough to allow you to send and receive SMS on both SIMs, receive inbound calls on both SIMs (just not at the same time), and choose which SIM to use for your outbound calls.

This limitation also means that if you are using your primary SIM to make a phone call, you cannot download a second eSIM while the call is active. It can also mean that after you have downloaded your new eSIM, you may experience problems using the amaysim app, if you are trying to make a call on a different SIM at the same time.

So please ensure that you are not on a phone call when trying to download your amaysim SIM. It may even help to temporarily remove the physical SIM from the handset and use a wifi connection to download your eSIM.

The Google Pixel camera does not automatically detect an eSIM QR code. So instead, to download your eSIM:

1. Click "Settings"

2. Click "Network & Internet"

3. Click "SIMs"

4. Click "Add more"

If you have accidentally deleted an eSIM simply log into the amaysim app, tap 'replace SIM' and follow the prompts to move your mobile number to a new eSIM. Please ensure you're doing this from the device you want to use the eSIM on.

Note: deleting an eSIM does not cancel your phone plan or service.

Before you start

• Connect to strong, private Wi-Fi (no public networks or VPNs).

• Remove or disable your physical SIM.

During set up

• Stay connected — unstable networks can cause failure.

• Let the download fully complete before closing or switching apps. Don’t let your device sleep.

• If interrupted, you'll need a new QR code to retry.
