Make the most of your summer with these five simple tips
10 Nov 2018
The arrival of summer is well and truly on the horizon and it’s safe to say we’re pretty excited.
Nights are getting longer, the sun has started to peak its head out more often than not, which means BBQs and beach sessions are soon to follow.
Australia is generally at its very best during summer; but we understand, it’s not all fun and games, as it can be tough to strike the right balance between relaxation and rejuvenation.
For some simple ways to make the most of your summer, without running yourself into the ground, check out the following tips;
re-asses your summer expectations
Firstly ask yourself, are they genuinely realistic?
Thinking, "I want to take two vacations, find the love of my life, and start a new career", will likely cause more stress than anyone should have to handle over a three month period.
Adjust your expectations to make sure they’re realistic, affordable, and that your goals are internally motivated, rather than being spawned by external influences such as friends, family or social media envy.
learn something new
Some say the antidote to boredom is to learn something new. Keep your brain active over summer by learning a new language, taking a cooking class, or challenging yourself to take up a new hobby.
You'll learn something new, have fun and hopefully make some friends along the way.
seek self-improvement
Getting into shape, finding a new job, or learning a new skill are all classic, yet incredibly valuable things that people tend to embark on during the summer period.
One quick tip of advice; don’t think you need to wait until the end of January before kick-starting your new mentality. Begin to reflect on the core things you'd like to change about yourself as soon you possible, and begin to plot out your strategy on how you’ll get there – the reward at the end of summer can often be priceless.
scale back your social calendar
It sounds straightforward, but to ensure you get the most out of your summer, sometimes you really need to scale back.
Cramming each and every day with activities and catchups with mates can end up being a nightmare. Keep things simple and work around a few key dates in your calendar and if you can, spend as much time doing absolutely nothing - trust us, you’ll feel amazing for it.
get outside and enjoy the sun
As the start of summer, we all have the intention of going for coastal walks, hitting the beach a minimum of two times a week and finally making it to those waterfalls your bestie keeps yarning about, but sometimes it doesn’t quite go as planned.
To ensure you're able to embark on some wholesome outdoor goodness this summer, earmark a minimum of 3-4 key activities throughout the summer months and invite a mixture of friends to each, this will keep you accountable and ensure things don't get too stale.
