Look, when most of us are asked about Oktoberfest, our minds quickly race to thoughts of incredible German hospitality, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this response; I mean you simply can’t go wrong with the delicious combination of German food and beer.
Although Oktoberfest celebrations have become an ever-increasing part of social calendars around Australia, what many people won’t be aware of, is that Oktoberfest celebrations have deep ties to the culture of amaysim as a workplace, and it’s a tradition that’s ingrained in our DNA.
Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane
When amaysim launched in 2010, we were hell-bent on simplifying stuff, by cutting through hidden fees, contracts and capped plans (remember those bad boys?)
The mantra of removing complexity from Aussies lives hasn’t changed one bit. What may surprise people, is that four out of our five original founders - Christian Magel, Rolf Hansen, Andreas Perreiter and Thomas Enger, are all in fact German, and the cultural traditions and values instilled by our founders have remained at the forefront of everything we do.
#FunFact, our amazing CEO Peter O’Connell, was the only non-German founder when amaysim formed back in 2010.

On the surface, they may sound straightforward, but they help keep us grounded and focused on our customer’s needs.
They’re the backbone of our day to day goals and projects, and help us bring simplicity to the places where we find complexity.
Continuing our Oktoberfest tradition
Our business has grown, stretched and evolved greatly since 2010, however each year, Oktoberfest provides us with a timely reminder of our early days and the journey we’ve taken to get here.
It’s no doubt a highlight of the amaysim social calendar, and we’re proud to be able to honour and enjoy our unique history.
