It’s Pay It Forward Day on Thursday 28 April 2016 and we've put our heads (and hearts) together with fellow tech innovator, Hey You.

There’s something pretty cool happening this Thursday. No, Vanilla Ice isn’t making a come-back - it’s Pay It Forward Day. We’ll be spreading the love by giving away free cups of coffee to charity workers and rewarding the first 2,000 generous individuals who get involved with amaysim credit.

What is Pay It Forward Day?

Pay It Forward Day is about all people, from all walks of life giving to someone else to make a positive difference.

It’s been running since 2007 and at last count there were more than five million people in nearly 80 countries around the world participating in the day.

Who is Hey You?

For those yet to experience this epic time-saving app, Hey You is a free app (available on the web, iOS, Android and Windows phones), that lets you order a takeaway coffee or snack from a café ahead of time so that you can beat the queue when you go to pick it up. I know right, genius! We love it here at amaysim and Hey You has become part of my daily routine!

Why are we teaming up with Hey You?

It was a no brainer for us to team up with another mobile-led business who shares the same goal, to make life simpler for Aussies.

In 2012 for Pay It Forward Day we hit the streets of Sydney to buy coffees, bus rides and offer other small acts of kindness. Take a walk down memory lane and read our blog from 2012.

This year we’re hooking up with Hey You to encourage Aussies to do something nice for a part of the community that perform acts of kindness for people in need every day – charity workers.

How can you Pay It Forward?

We’ve made it simple for you to do a good deed -

  • 1. If you haven’t already, download the free Hey You app (iOS, Android and Windows)
  • 2. On Pay It Forward Day – Thursday, 28 April 2016 - use the app to buy a coffee for someone deserving from the virtual “Pay It Forward Day Store” which will appear on the home screen of the app.
  • 3. Then it’s just a matter of following the prompts.

How will Hey You Pay It Forward?

The money raised from the coffee donations will be go towards funding coffee trucks, which will visit a handful of charities in Sydney and Melbourne on Pay It Forward Day. The charities include:

  3. Barnardos Australia
  4. Humpty Dumpty Foundation

How will amaysim Pay It Forward?

The first 2,000 individuals to donate a coffee aka a “cup of kindness” will score $5 amaysim credit. For those already with amaysim, you’ll score $5 off your next bill. For everyone else, you’ll get $5 off any of our UNLIMITED plans. If you make a donation, keep an eye out for an emails from us and Hey You with the relevant promo codes on Friday, 29 April 2016.

Celebrating nine amazing years!

We’re growing up, but we’re definitely not growing old.

Our ninth year has been filled with awesome achievements, and we couldn’t have done it without your amazing support!

It felt just like yesterday when we embarked on an ambitious journey to shake up the dinosaurs of the Australian telco industry, with our BYO mobile phone proposition and SIM-only plans.

Fast forward nine years and with over one million customers catching onto the amaysim wave, it’s crazy to think that the best is still yet to come.

Whether you’ve been with us since day dot (back when the iPhone 4 was the hottest phone in the market), or have recently joined the amaysim family, we can’t thank our loyal customers enough for their support over the years, as we clearly wouldn’t be here without you.

Between expanding our product offerings and enhancing the experience for our customers (be sure to check out the refreshed amaysim app), it's been an exciting year at amaysim HQ.

As you all know, amaysim runs on the Optus 4G network, and mobile data is the fuel that allows our connected lives to exist. Data usage is only set to increase as we move into the future which is something we want to ensure is encapsulated in the type of mobile plans we offer.

amaysim and Optus have had a mutually beneficial partnership since we launched back in 2010 and in May we signed a revitalised network supply agreement (NSA) with Optus.

The updated agreement enables us to offer even greater products and services to our mobile customers, so keep your eyes peeled as we continue to expand our mobile plan offerings to meet our customers’ evolving needs.

There’s always been a focus at amaysim HQ of doing right by our customers, knowing good things will come and although awards aren’t everything, from time-to-time it’s nice to be acknowledged!

To cap off a great year, we struck gold at the 2019 Canstar Blue Awards, taking home the gong for the most satisfied customers in the prepaid SIM-only category - shining a light on the amazing value our mobile plans continue to provide hundreds of thousands of Aussies.

What made this win even more special is the fact the Canstar Blue Awards are based on direct feedback given to an independent research firm by customers.

On that note, a massive shout out to our customers who continually give us a vote of confidence through loyalty and support – we appreciate each and every one of you.
