New South Wales concession eligibility

The following social programs for energy is funded by the NSW Government and consists of a number of concessions that are available for eligible residential energy customers.

In accordance with the social programs for energy code, customers are requested to notify amaysim Energy of any change in their circumstances that that would affect their pending application or continued eligibility for a rebate (concession).

Low Income Household Rebate

This concession is designed to provide assistance in relation to a residential customer’s energy expenses.

Life Support Rebate

This concession is designed to provide assistance where approved life support equipment that is essential to life support is used by the residential customer or another person that lives at the same address as the residential customer. Applications for the Life Support Rebate must be made on the NSW Department of Industry Life Support Application Form.

Medical Energy Rebate

This concession is designed to provide assistance where a residential customer or a person who lives at the same address as the residential customer has an inability to self-regulate body temperature and the residential customer holds one of the required concession cards.

An inability to self-regulate body temperature may be associated with certain medical conditions. Application for the medical energy rebate must be made through the department of Industry and the application form.

Family Energy Rebate

This concession is designed to assist families to manage their energy costs. It is available to residential customers who receive Commonwealth Governments Family Tax Benefit A or B. Applications must be made using the Department of Industry’s application.

Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) Scheme

This is a NSW Government scheme designed to help residential energy customers who are financially disadvantaged and experience difficulty paying their residential energy bills owing to a crisis or emergency situation.

The EAPA scheme is administered by the Department of Industry and is aimed at helping customers stay connected to essential energy services.

Community Welfare Organisations (CWO) apply the EAPA scheme vouchers to eligible customers and if you are referred to a CWO you will be required to take your original bill (that is, the first bill for the current payment period) when you attend the EAPA assessment. NSW Gas Rebate

The Gas Rebate helps eligible NSW households to pay their gas bills.

On 1 July 2016 the NSW Government extended the eligibility criteria for this rebate to include households using Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for basic households needs such as cooking, heating and hot water.

You need to hold either a Pensioner Concession Card issued by the DHS/DVA, a DHS Health Care Card, a DVA Gold Card marked with either War Widow or War Widower Pension, or Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI), or a Disability Pension (EDA).

Queensland concession eligibility

If you have a pensioner concession card, a HealthCare Card, a DVA Health Card, a Queensland Seniors Card or are an asylum seeker then you may be eligible for the electricity rebate.

In order to apply for the electricity rebate please complete the following Community Queensland form.

Victoria concession eligibility

DHHS

The Victorian Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) offers a variety of concessions and benefits to eligible cardholders to assist low-income Victorians with energy bills. If you have a relevant concession card, you may be eligible for one of these concessions.

Life Support

This concession provides a discount on electricity bills where there is a household member using an eligible life support machine.

All eligible cardholders must complete the Life Support Concession and Machine Notification application form that is issued by the DHHS.

Application forms need to be signed by the applicant’s doctor, nurse or hospital social worker confirming their use of a life support machine and returned to amaysim.

Medical Cooling Concession

The Medical Cooling Concession provides a discount on summer electricity costs for cardholders where a member of the family has a medical condition that affects the body’s ability to regulate temperature.

This concession is available from 1 November to 30 April each year.

Applications can be made by the application form issued by DHHS.

Service to Property Charge Concession

The Service to Property Charge Concession provides a discount on the electricity service charge where a household has very low electricity usage. The usage charge must be less than the service charge. The discount reduces the service charge to the cost of the total electricity usage for the billing period. This concession is available all year round.

Controlled Load Electricity Concession

The Controlled Load Electricity Concession provides a discount on controlled load usage charges. Controlled load charges apply to separately metered electric hot water or slab heating which is measured via a dual element electricity meter or dual element smart meter. These tariffs are usually shown as ‘controlled load’ or ‘dedicated circuit’ tariffs.

The concession only applies to the controlled load component of the bill and is applied on bills issued throughout the year. The concession is only available to households with an eligible dual element electricity meter or dual element smart meter.

Utility Relief Grant Scheme

The Utility Relief Grant Scheme provides assistance for domestic customers who are unable to pay their utility bills due to a temporary financial crisis.

Assistance may be provided to low-income households suffering a short-term (within last 12 months) financial crisis who are unable to pay for a current utility account and who are at risk of disconnection, restriction of supply, or non-supply of gas bottles.

South Australia concession eligibility

Energy bill concessions

To help with the cost of energy bills a state government concession is available to eligible South Australians on low or fixed incomes.

Medical heating and cooling concession

On 1 January 2012, the South Australian Government introduced the Medical Heating and Cooling Concession.

This energy concession assists South Australians on a fixed or low income who have a clinically verified medical condition which requires the frequent use of heating or cooling in the home to prevent the severe worsening of their condition.

It is available to eligible applicants in addition to the current energy concession.

How to apply

If your application is approved, your electricity account will be automatically credited with the concession amount.

Please note: If you are the holder of a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card or a Low Income Health Care Card, you’ll need to send in a copy of your card with your application.

Changing retailers

If you're changing energy retailers, contact the South Australian Government Concessions Hotline on 1800 307 758 or email concessions@sa.gov.au with your new account number and new energy retailer details to ensure you continue to receive your energy concession.

You should do this when you receive the first account from your new energy retailer.

The concession for the first quarter's energy account will be applied to your next account.
