These days, going somewhere without a solid internet connection can leave you feeling rather alienated. Your Snapchat is un-posted, your little blue dot on the GPS has come to a standstill and your fingers itch to refresh Instagram—but you’ve lost all connection. Never fear, your feeds will always remain refreshed with this guide to free Wi-Fi in Brisbane (and I should know because I’m a Queenslander).

SLQ located in the Cultural Precinct of South Bank., not only provides free Wi-Fi to the public, the library is a cool escape from the heat in summer and a warm place to hideaway in winter (which isn’t really a thing in Sunny Queensland). For those of you plugging through an assignment, the café is conveniently located downstairs in the courtyard for your morning/afternoon coffee hit.

Yep, you read that right. You can now access free Wi-Fi at the top of Mt Coot-tha. FaceTime your friends still down the bottom when you reach the top ahead of them. Make sure you charge your phone before you head up, you don’t want to run out of power because you’re going to want to take some photos. This service is available 24/7 which is great because the views up there are incredible at twilight; wait, who am I kidding? They’re fab regardless of the time of day.

South Bank is no longer the ibis oasis that it used to be. The fake beach has been cleaned of Band-Aids and there is a range of credible restaurants popping up, and now the parklands are offering free Wi-Fi to the masses of Brisbane.

If you pop into town, you’ll also be able to connect to the free Wi-Fi provided by the Brisbane City Council in the Brisbane CBD, a range of parks, the Fortitude Valley mall, and Brisbane City Cats.

If like me your mission is finding a place to write in peace, surrounding yourself with published authors in the Avid Reader bookshop café should be your first stop. There’s a steady hum from the stream of people perusing the shelves and customers quietly chatting in the café. You’ll have access to free Wi-Fi, countless shelves of inspiration, hot coffee and sweet treats for as long as you please (well at least during their opening hours).

Located down Burnett Lane in the middle of the Brisbane CBD, Brew not only provides free Wi-Fi but also has delicious beer on tap to get your creative juices going. During the day you can start the morning off with a coffee and some breakfast and move on to a beer or smooth red from the wine bar soon after that (if you’re so inclined). The tables range from small spaces to large wooden benches and low coffee tables surrounded by comfy couches.

You have the freedom of choice with stores located in several places across the city, including Toowong, West End, Fortitude Valley, and Darra. Serving up delicious vegetarian meals for breakfast and lunch and smooth coffee all day long, Sol Breads Café is a great place to catch up on work, with friends or your Facebook stalking.

Lightspace& Thought Fort

Not technically ‘free’, but a small price to pay for access to Internet, workspaces and a social office atmosphere. You can sign up for an extended period or take it day by day with some of the flexible options available. Both are conveniently located near to the Brisbane CBD and are air-conditioned with small desk areas and larger meeting rooms. Thought Fort is open for 24-hours, seven nights per week and Lightspace promises new friends and dogs to play with (um, yes please!).
