Hey there’s it’s Seph,
It’s finally 2015 – the year Back to the Future Part II promised us we’d have hoverboards and surprisingly, a use for the fax machine again.
But beyond that the movie fairly accurately predicted that we’d be using tech more and more to make our lives easier. So why not embrace the future by using your phone to get the jump on tackling your New Year’s resolution? Whether you’re planning on slimming down or saving up, here’s how you can use your phone to achieve your 2015 resolution.
1. Apps for the reborn gym junkie: "I'm getting into shape in 2015!"
Following a mammoth month of eating, drinking and pure indulgence it’s no surprise that many of us dedicate the new year to fitness and a better overall approach to our health. Make good on your promise to yourself by making the most of the fitness apps available on your phone.
If you’ve got an iPhone or Samsung smartphone, start with Health for iOS or S Health before looking for other specialist apps to help keep you on track – there are a range of running apps on the market and don’t look past the calorie counters to help keep your cravings at bay. Here are a few good ones to check out:
- Calorie Counter - MyFitnessPal – iOS and Android
- Calorie Counter by FatSecret – iOS and Android
- Fooducate – iOS and Android
2. The inspired saver: “I’m going to save more this year”
One of the easiest ways to help line your pockets with some extra cash is take a look at what you’re already spending to see where else you can save. Check out the amaysim data calculator to get a feel for how much data you use every month as well as our compare plans page to see if you’re on the right plan or data pack. Also, don’t forget to refer your friends and family – you’ll both score $10 amaysim credit to use however you like. It’s a win all around.
3. The newfound techspert: “This year I’m going to be responsible with technology”
If there’s one thing we learnt from the hacks of 2014, it’s that we need to get tech smart. Start the New Year by upping your password game – use special characters where you can and never use the same password for all your different accounts. It’s best to treat your passwords like your undies – change them frequently. Also get in the habit of backing up the data on your smartphone, tablets and computers – You. Check out our blog for steps on how to back up your mobile.
4. The environmentalist: “2015’s all about reducing, reusing and recycling”
Before splurging on a new phone, think about how you can breathe new life into your current phone. If you do go ahead an purchase a new one, consider giving your old one to away or sending it to a specialist electronics recycler – your wallet and the environment will thank you for it.
5. The wanderluster: “I want to travel more in 2015”
If you’re up for an adventure in 2015 take advantage of all the places worldwide that offer free Wi-Fi and let your phone be your travelling companion – from the airport to McDonald’s, Starbucks and even you hotel, it’s easier to stay connected when you travel.
When you’re connected to Wi-Fi, make the most of the various travel apps available so that you know exactly where you’re going and what you’re doing (or, if you’re the spontaneous type, arough plan of where you’re going). Here are some great travel apps to check out:
