It’s crazy to think that it’s been two years since we first took the plunge and launched a new breed of low-cost mobile in Australia.

A few of us were sitting around with a cold beer at the end of a long day last week, chatting about what a year we’ve had. I thought I’d share a few of the highlights.

What’s happened at amaysim in the past 12 months

Here’s the short version:

The telco industry - finally cleaning up its act?

New rules have finally seen the industry start shuffling towards transparency. We’re not holding our breath it’ll happen overnight, but anything that takes away some of the smoke and mirrors has to be a good thing. Also, with the term ‘cap’ now on its deathbed, there’s a glimmer of hope that a new leaf is finally being turned.

You

Most importantly, you (our amaysim customers) really seem to get it. Like my mate (and our chairman) Pete told me when we first started this caper, “Aussies can be a sceptical bunch, but once we prove amaysim’s worth you’ll see a tide of people come knocking on our doors.”

He was spot on with that prediction and we’ve seen hundreds of thousands of Aussies come through our doors. It’s been such a wave that we’ve even had to order more desks and phones to staff up our local customer service centre at times.

The terrific twos

A lot of people talk about toddlers hitting the ‘terrible twos’. I reckon here at amaysim we’re about to launch into the ‘terrific twos’ because the best is yet to come. If you’ve been with us since the beginning, we hope you’re enjoying the ride. If you’ve just joined us recently, let the good times (and cheaper bills) begin!
