What modem or dongles can I use?
You can use any unlocked modem (or dongle) with amaysim MOBILE BROADBAND or one that is compatible with the on the Optus Network. The modem must also have the ability to operate on either the 900MHz or 2100Mhz network frequencies for 3G services to work.

Most MOBILE BROADBAND modems are ‘locked’ by the operator so it’s best to check with your current provider. When you are ready to set up your device read our internet and APN set-up instructions for more details.

What is the amaysim coverage area?
We’re powered by the Optus 3G Dual Band Network which covers 97% of the Australia population. Your ability to access 2G/3G services and the location where these services are available within the Optus Open Network depends on the capability of the device you’re using. A number of other factors may affect coverage including location and demand on the network. Visit our coverage page for more detail

How fast is amaysim MOBILE BROADBAND?
The theoretical maximum download speeds are as high as 7.2Mbps in some areas. This means you could theoretically download your typical 5MB song in less than 6 seconds. However it’s not always going to be that fast as there are many factors which influence your Mobile Broadband speed. Some factors include:

• The distance you are from the mobile tower
• Obstructions between the device and the tower
• The number of other people using the same tower as you to access mobile broadband. It's like driving on a road - the less people using it the quicker the drive.

As there are usually people using the same road, we find the actual speed most people can expect is between 512kbps and 1.5mbps. So if you’re downloading that 5MB song, it’s probably going to take around 29 seconds to download. We think that’s pretty good considering you can do it all on the go.

How do I renew my amaysim MOBILE BROADBAND?
To take the hassle out of payment and so you have access to data when you want it, we automatically renew your data pack every 30 days (unless you are on the 10GB data pack). If you’re a Post-paid customer, your data pack will be added onto your monthly bill. For Pre-paid customers, you just need to make sure you have enough credit in your account or have nominated a credit card or bank account with us. Easy. Of course, you’re free to leave us at any time (we don’t think you’ll want to though) you’ll simply forfeit what’s left of your data.

Will I be notified before my data allowance expires?
Yes we’ll keep you up to date via SMS and email alerts you when you’ve reached 75%, 90% and 100% of your data allowance. If you still want to use data after your monthly (30 days) allowance is reached you will be charged at 5c/MB or you can upgrade your data pack.
